Bones also function as a site for mineral storage and blood cell formation.

Osteoporosis Prevention: Vitamin D helps calcium absorption and a diet deficient in calcium can lead to osteoporosis in later life. Calcium may help prevent osteoporosis when dietary intake is inadequate.
